When the long way is just the start

Sometimes it takes a long time not to reach a goal but to get started.
When the long way is just the start

Today’s ruling of the United States Supreme Court on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization is a good example of what I mean by the long way.

50 years of grinding effort led to a victory for the pro-life movement in the Supreme Court. Violence did not hurry things along; violence only ever set the movement back. Patient and unrelenting activism over five decades made the difference in the end.

But Dobbs isn’t actually the end. The judicial defeat of Roe only brings the movement back to the starting line. 50 years is what it took just to get started.

There real work of the pro-life movement begins today. The long way on dealing with abortion is a really long way.
